Vigna Sultana, Nero d’Avola.

Vigneto ad alberello dalla pendenza pronunciata esposto a Nord ovest. Terra bianca da matrice calcarea, ricco di minerali e capacità drenante. La pendenza pronunciata ed un suolo molto magro, esaltano le caratteristiche pedoclimatiche dove gli alberelli di Nero d’Avola trovano un habitat naturale. È un terroir estremo, una combinazione di fattori ambientali ed umani che distinguono la Sultana dagli altri vigneti. La Luce riflessa dalle terre bianche di Sultana esalta le caratteristiche delle uve del vigneto.

Pronouncedly sloping bush-trained vineyard facing northwest. White soil from limestone matrix, rich in minerals and drainage capacity. The pronounced slope and a very lean soil, enhance the pedoclimatic characteristics where the Nero d’Avola saplings find a natural habitat. It is an extreme terroir, a combination of environmental and human factors that distinguish Sultana from other vineyards. The Light reflected from Sultana’s white soils enhances the characteristics of the vineyard’s grapes.

Saia, whose name comes from the Arabic word for irrigation canals built centuries ago to collect rainwater.
The first label produced by Feudo Maccari in 2002 and the daughter of Nero d’Avola’s chosen home in southeastern Sicily.
It represents our best selection of Nero d’Avola, sourced exclusively from vines bred to the alberello system that are about 40 years old.

GUARNASCHELLI: Una Vigna Vecchia di circa 60 anni, con leggera esposizione verso ovest in dialetto chiamata "U Quadrato”. Matrice argillosa di terre brune con presenza di scheletro e misto di sabbia vulcanica.

SULTANA: Terra bianca da matrice calcarea, ricco di minerali e capacità drenante. La pendenza pronunciata ed un suolo molto magro, esaltano le caratteristiche pedoclimatiche dove gli alberelli di Nero d'Avola trovano un habitat naturale.

GUARNASCHELLI: An Old Vineyard about 60 years old, with slight westward exposure in dialect called "U Quadrato." Clayey matrix of brown soils with presence of skeleton and mixture of volcanic sand.

SULTANA: White soil from a limestone matrix, rich in minerals and draining capacity. The pronounced slope and very lean soil enhance the soil and climate characteristics where Nero d'Avola saplings find a natural habitat.

Siamo davvero orgogliosi di presentare oggi due nuovi single vineyards di Nero d’Avola, Vigna Guarnaschelli (60 anni) e Vigna Sultana (25 anni) in una masterclass guidata da @gabriele.gorelli. Due parcelle selezionate per la loro diversità e peculiarità, due vini che provano a tracciare una nuova strada per il Nero d’Avola, partendo da Noto che è una dei suoi territori d’origine.

We are really proud to present today two new single vineyards of Nero d'Avola, Vigna Guarnaschelli (60 years old) and Vigna Sultana (25 years old) in a masterclass led by @gabriele.gorelli. Two plots selected for their diversity and distinctiveness, two wines that try to chart a new path for #nerodavola, starting from Noto which is one of its territories of origin.

“Sliced white pineapple, lemon rind, pear, white pepper and sea shell aromas. Some chalk, too. Ginger. Medium to full body, with lovely fruit and a deep underlying character of white pepper and celery salt. Intense finish. Lively and energetic at the end.”

Vigna Firraru, Family and Friends, Tre bicchieri 2024.

Fabbro, in dialetto Siciliano “Firraru” il nome da sempre di questo vigneto dalla terra nera, a Feudo Maccari. Firraru è una particella estremamente luminosa, che beneficia delle brezze marine dello Ionio che favoriscono una maturazione ideale delle uve. Il Grillo è una varietà molto versatile che, grazie alle sue caratteristiche, ha un buon potenziale di invecchiamento e si presta a diverse vinificazioni: abbiamo avuto la volontà di esaltarlo in un single vineyard ancora più morbido, rotondo e strutturato. Affina quindi in piccole botti da 3hl di primo passaggio di tre tostature diverse (blonde, media e coeur) per circa 1 anno.

Fabbro, in Sicilian dialect “Firraru” is the name of this black-soiled vineyard at Feudo Maccari, which has a natural slope and an important presence of limestone, clay skeleton and an higher ferrous matrix than other soils in Sicily. The density of the soil gives important and structured fruits. The presence of stones enhances the soil temperatures, having very fast cooling and heating and therefore a great aromatic synthesis of the grapes. Firraru is an extremely luminous parcel, benefiting from the sea breezes of the Ionian Sea that favor ideal ripening of the grapes.
Grillo is a very versatile variety that, thanks to its characteristics, has a good aging potential and lends itself to different vinifications: we had the desire to enhance it in an even softer, rounder and more structured single vineyard wine. It then ages in small 3hl first-passage barrels of three different toastings (blonde, medium and coeur) for about 1 year.

Mahâris, nasce nel 2005 e prende il nome dalle torri di avvistamento che gli arabi usavano per perlustrare le coste del mare, è il vino che simboleggia l'incontro di stili e culture diverse. Le eccellenti condizioni pedoclimatiche, trovate in Sicilia, hanno consentito un perfetto adattamento del Syrah tanto da essere considerato ormai un autoctono. Qui infatti il calore mediterraneo dell’isola e la coltivazione ad alberello, gli consentono di raggiungere una perfetta maturazione ed al tempo stesso i terreni calcarei e gessosi gli donano eleganza, finezza ed una spiccata mineralità. Una leggenda narra che sarebbe stato l’imperatore romano Marco Aurelio ad importare dei vitigni locali dall’Egitto che furono piantati presso la città di Siracusa, dalla quale deriverebbe il nome syrah.

Mahâris, born in 2005 and takes its name from the watchtowers that the Arabs used to patrol the sea coast, it is the wine that symbolizes the meeting of different styles and cultures. The excellent pedoclimatic conditions, found in Sicily, allowed a perfect adaptation of Syrah so much that it is now considered almost an autochthonous grape. Here in fact the Mediterranean heat of the island and the alberello cultivation allow it o perfectly reach ripeness, while the limestone and chalky soils give it elegance, finesse and a distinct minerality. One legend tells that was the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius who is said to have imported local vines from Egypt that were planted near the city of Syracuse, from which the name syrah would derive.
